Have you ever tried to close your garage door but it wouldn’t close? This sort of thing can be very aggravating for anyone, especially if you’re in a hurry. If you have an attached garage door then it is even more important that you make sure that your garage door closes properly. Perhaps you are going to work or you are dropping the kids off at school. No doubt you are in a hurry and the one thing that you don’t need is for the garage door to give you problems.
You are backing out of the garage and you notice that the door will not open enough to get the car out. Eventually, you are able to get the door to open completely and you don’t experience this problem again for at least another month. You are starting to notice a pattern of being inconvenienced by your garage door closure issues.
Our garage door repair technicians get asked the same question about their door closure issues, which is why this is occurring? One of the reasons you might be experiencing this problem is because your garage door sensors may have something blocking them. There are some things that you could do yourself to see if this is the issue. Simple take a look at the sensors on both sides of your door.
If there is a string, trashcan or anything obstructing it, remove it. The sensors are in place to serve as a protection; therefore, keeping them free from obstruction is very important. In most cases this is the last thing that most homeowners will check simply because they don’t think it could be anything so simple. However, in our experience, this is the biggest reason that someone is experiencing this type of problem.
Another problem that you may be experiencing is a problem with your garage door springs. When there is a problem with the springs of your door, it could cause you garage door closure issues. To find out if there is an issue with your garage door springs, disconnect the emergency release latch from the garage door opener. Try to open the door again, manually. If the door opened without too much effort then it may not be the springs. However, if you noticed some resistance to it opening, this could mean that there is an issue with the springs. Resolving this problem is easy for our expert service technicians.
They work with garage doors of every type and is able to quickly determine if your garage door springs are the cause of your problem. Don’t try making adjustments to your springs yourself because this is a dangerous hob that should be left to the experts. You will only be putting yourself in harm’s way by trying to handle the job yourself. It’s best to leave it in the hands of a trained professional.
In addition to something blocking your sensors, there could also be a problem with your sensors being misaligned. Again, you can make an inspection of this issue yourself. Simply look to make sure that there is a light on the transmitter. Your receiver light should also be on. Once the transmitter is in view, it should light up. If either of the sensors are misaligned or is slightly bumped, it will disrupt the sensor.
You could manually bend the sensor back into the right position to align it again or you can simply give us a call and one of our qualified service technicians will be happy to handle the job for you. Again, while the sensors may look fine, there may be something slightly off about them. Either the sensors are blocked by something or they are misaligned. Look to make sure that you don’t have gym equipment or some type of garden tool blocking the sensors.
All you have to do is slightly hit something to move it in front of the sensor. That is often why this problem is often overlooked and yet it is staring you right in the face. Surprisingly, even if there is a build-up of dirt and debris, it can cause this same problem. Therefore, all that you’ll need is a damp cloth to gently wipe the lenses of the sensor clean. This should do the trick.
The wiring inside the garage could also be the cause of this problem. They might be old and worn out or something may be pulling them; which will adversely affect the way your door is functioning. Your safety override could also trigger this problem, causing your door to start and stop again.
Your garage door springs and the door cables are supposed to safely lower the garage door at a pace that will prevent it from slamming down. If the cables and springs weren’t there then the door could simply fall down on you or your vehicle. This would definitely be dangerous and might be one of the causes for your garage door closure issues.
You might not be able to see the buildup but it is likely there and can benefit from a cleaning. If there is too much buildup then this problem could cause your door to revert back. The doors are made to stop whenever something is in its path. This is a safety feature that stops the door from shutting on something or someone. This is why it is important that you inspect the tracks to clear away any debris that could be on them.
These are just some of the known reasons why you may be experiencing door closure issues.
